Mahamahopadyaya Prof Rewa Prasad Dwivedi born in 1935 from late Pt. Narmada Prasad Dwivedi and Late Smt Laxmi Devi. He began to learn Sanskrit from his father in the childhood from the holy verses of  Vishnusahastranam.. Completing his school education at the village he came to Kashi (Varanasi) in 1950 to obtain higher education in Sanskrit under the leading scholar of that time late Pt. Mahadeva Shastri. He qualified all his degrees viz. Shastri (Sahitya, 1953), Acharya (Sahitya, 1956), M.A. (Sanskrit Literature, 1959) from the Banaras Hindu University with first class first. He obtained Ph.D. degree in 1965, Ravishankar University, Raipur on Hemadri’s commentary on Raghuvamsa ‘Darpana’ and D.Litt. (Sanskrit) 1974, Jabalpur University on published works on the Alankara and Dhvani Schools  of Sanskrit Poetics.

          For being Professor of BHU since 1977, he started his career as Lecturer and Asst. Professor of  Sanskrit, M.P.Govt. Service from 1959-1970. He served BHU as Reader in Dept. of Sahitya, during 1970-1977, Professor 1977-1995, Head of the Department of Sahitya 1970-1990, Dean, Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vijanan Sankaya (Faculty of Sanskrit Learning), BHU three times – 1979-1981, 1985-1987, 1987-1989, Emeritus Fellow (UGC 1991-1992), Emeritus Professor (BHU since 1993). He is Founder of Kalidasa Sansthan – “Centre for Excellence in Sankrit Poetics”, Varanasi a charitable organization imparting education of poetics and Sanskrit poetry to students free of cost and devoted for the preservation & publication of Kalidasa Literature and ancient texts on Sanskrit Poetics.

Over 23 years of teaching and research experience at two central universities viz. Leader of three major research projects in Sanskrit literature at BHU & Kalidasa Sansthan, Varanasi. A versatile academic with first hand experience in administration of departmental and university affairs. An award-winning, multi-gold-medalist, first-class-first student of literary fundamentals under leading scholars of modern times, including his father Mahamahopadhyay Prof. Rewa Prasad Dwivedi ‘Sanatana.’
